In France on 20/01/2017, 101,686 were financed by the European Union, for a total amount of € 43,706,787,364 through the European Structural Funds [European Social Fund (ESF), European Development Fund (ERDF), European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF), European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)].
From 2007 to 2013, the EU invested € 14 billion in the French regions (EU Cohesion Policy 2014-2020).
Aids are allocated in order to promote, especially, sustainable development, employment, integration, research and innovation in small and medium enterprises and development of rural areas.
The new period 2014-2020 was launched on 1 January 2014 with € 26.7bn (4 funds (ESF, ERDF, EAGF, EAFRD), 83 programs (national, regional, interregional or European Territorial Cooperation (ETC)).
Juncker’s plan: in June 2016, 266 projects are approved at European level, of which 35 projects in France, or € 9 billion.

European funds range from building infrastructure (highways, ports, airports, roundabouts, nursery schools, brownfields) to the training of workers through support to SMEs as the development projects and cooperation in third countries to the European Union:
– A company of Poitou-Charentes has benefited from European funds for the expansion of one of its sites. It has maintained and increased its staff (50 jobs) ;
– The documentary “Apocalypse” on the Second World War broadcast on France 2 has benefited from EU funding (€ 200 000). Some films were funded by the European program MEDIA “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” by Cristian Mungiu (UK), “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud.
